The body is not a fixed object. Not only is the physical body constantly shifting but our relationship to our body is continuously deconstructing and reconstructing based on experiences, trauma, information, culture, and more. Current anthropological research is exploring how our experience of our body and what it can do is largely tied to our understanding of the body ( for example: western anatomy).
This trimester will be focusing on trying on multiple lenses of how to perceive the body and elements of our physiology and how this can provide options for coming into contact with other bodies. Contact fundamentals will be revised in this module to make sure there is a foundation to the practice. Besides the fundamentals some elements that will be explored are: qualities of touch, elements in the body (wood, air, earth, water, fire, metal), connecting with others from the fascial and visceral systems, and adaptability in falling and responding utilizing elastic recoil.
This trimester is a part of the Contact from the Ground up Series.
